![]() ![]() Companion robots are designed to enhance well-being, quality of life, and independence by providing service and companionship and assisting daily life. Consequences were categorized into user, caregiver, and health related. The defining attributes included human–robot interaction, function, features, structure, cost, and management of the robot being a companion. Companion robot antecedents were classified into individual factors, attitude toward robots, and caregiver and social factors. The findings were categorized into antecedents, attributes, and consequences. Seventy-five eligible articles were studied. Rodgers’ evolutionary concept analysis was used to clarify the antecedents, attributes, and consequences. Any quantitative or qualitative study published in English or Korean focusing on companion robots for older adults was included in the study. The literature from July 2011 to June 2021 was sought from databases using specific keywords. This study aims to analyze the concept of companion robots for older adults from the perspective of nursing. International Registered Report Identifier (IRRID) Finally, nursing students and practicing nurses must be equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively assess AIHTs and safely integrate those deemed appropriate to support person-centered compassionate nursing care in practice settings. Additionally, nurse educators need to adopt new and evolving pedagogies that incorporate AI to better support students at all levels of education. The two key categories derived from the literature were (1) influences of AI on nursing education in academic institutions and (2) influences of AI on nursing education in clinical practice.Ĭurricular reform is urgently needed within nursing education programs in academic institutions and clinical practice settings to prepare nurses and nursing students to practice safely and efficiently in the age of AI. A variety of AIHTs were discussed, including virtual avatar apps, smart homes, predictive analytics, virtual or augmented reality, and robots. The population included nurses, nurse educators, and nursing students at the entry-to-practice, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Data were charted using a structured form and narratively summarized into categories.Ī total of 27 articles were identified (20 expository papers, six studies with quantitative or prototyping methods, and one qualitative study). Included literature focused on nursing education and digital health technologies that incorporate AI. Abstracts and full-text studies were independently screened by two reviewers using prespecified inclusion and exclusion criteria. In addition to the use of these electronic databases, a targeted website search was performed to access relevant grey literature. Using an established scoping review methodology, the databases of MEDLINE, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Central, Education Resources Information Centre, Scopus, Web of Science, and Proquest were searched. This scoping review followed a previously published protocol from April 2020. However, little emphasis has been placed on synthesizing this body of literature.Ī scoping review was conducted to summarize the current and predicted influences of AIHTs on nursing education over the next 10 years and beyond. Increasingly, researchers are exploring the potential influences of AI health technologies (AIHTs) on nursing in general and on nursing education more specifically. It is predicted that artificial intelligence (AI) will transform nursing across all domains of nursing practice, including administration, clinical care, education, policy, and research. Collaboration with engineers in the development of personal care robotic technology has the potential to contribute to the creation of products that optimally address the needs of elders and people with disabilities. Implications for nursing education and the delivery of nursing services are identified. Selected relevant issues related to the human-robotic interface including ethical concerns are identified. This article provides an overview of development in the area of personal care robotics to address societal needs reflecting demographic trends. To date, the nursing literature has not addressed how nurses will assist these vulnerable populations in the selection and use of robotic technology or how robotics could effect nursing care and patient outcomes. Technology in this area is advancing rapidly in Asia, Europe, and North America. The business sector provides regular reportage on the development of personal care robots to enable elders and people with disabilities to remain in their homes. ![]()
